Margaret Bateson

VSS Chief Executive Officer

Margaret Bateson is the Chief Executive of the Victims and Survivors Service (VSS) in Northern Ireland.

VSS was initially established in 2013 to provide support and services to victims and survivors of the Troubles/conflict.  Since 2020, VSS has also been providing health and wellbeing services to survivors of Historical Institutional Abuse (HIA).

Margaret has over 15 years’ experience in leading organisational change, governance and service delivery in Northern Ireland, Europe and further afield.

With a commitment to co-designed and community-led services, she has overseen the implementation of a needs-based, trauma informed service delivery model since 2017, with a clear focus on achieving the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes for victims and survivors.

Prior to working with the VSS, Margaret worked in overseas development on community development and governance programmes and for the EU Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.
